Underwater Videography

Video is the best way to share the sights, sounds, motion and dynamics of the underwater world. If you want to get the best clips and also learn to edit your scuba diving stories then the Underwater Videographer Specialty course is for you. Learn to create underwater videos that are interesting, entertaining and worth watching again and again. If you’re a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 10 years old, you can enroll in the PADI Underwater Videographer Specialty course.


Required Dives

Dive One

• Video system preparation

• Shooting with video system: standing, sitting, kneeling, lying, swimming, holding steady, staying close to subjects, using upward angle, holding takes, camera motion slow and steady, checking depth, time, air supply and location frequently, maintaining proper buoyancy.

• Video system disassembly

• Debriefing and review video

Dive Two

• Shooting with video system: shot sequence, pan, tilt, dolly, truck, follow, lead.

• Video system disassembly

• Debriefing and review video

Dive Three

• Developing video story line

• Video system preparation

• Shooting planned story line sequences with video system (all students should shoot video sequences)

• Video system disassembly

• Debriefing and review video

Gaining the Knowledge

This will be a comprehensive and very informative training program that introduces you to underwater videography. At your own pace, you'll work your way through the different sections including; video equipment selection and maintenance, external lights, exposure, focus, story line, sequencing, editing and how to produce a video that truly captures your scuba adventures.. This portion takes between 12-15 hours and must be completed prior to your dives.

The first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your SCUBA Heroes instructor about earning credit

Equipment: Of course you’ll use an underwater video camera and need your basic SCUBA equipment. To edit your video, you’ll need access to video editing equipment, which usually includes a computer with editing software. Your SCUBA Heroes Instructor may suggest other appropriate gear.
