About Me

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A Scientist but I never really wanted to grow up.

Favorite Travel Location and Why?

Hawaii. The Islands have everything to offer from mountains to oceans and everything in between. I can take a hike up a 1000 foot mountain and the next day do a wreck dive or a shore dive. I can paddle board, boat, snorkel, bike, hike or just enjoy the views from the beaches.

What is your Dream Travel Location and Why?

The red sea. I have heard it has colors like nowhere else in the world. I want to see for myself.

When I'm off I like to?

I am always up for a hike or a bike ride. I like to keep active. I was very sick as a child and feel I'm making up for lost time. I also ski and most winters go find a mountain to be a full time ski instructor.

Favorite Movie?

City of Angels

Favorite Fish?

Juvenile yellowtail coris also called the hawaiian lolo. I also enjoy the juvenile frogfish. I like so many options but even the regular visitors like the parrot fish or filefish are wonderful.

All time favorite aquatic animals?

cuttlefish, turtles, sharks, and nudibranchs.

What's next?

Wherever the boat will take me. I love the water and the adventure it brings.

Dive Topics

Why do you want to work in the SCUBA Industry?

I want to show what it feels like to fly underwater. To truly be weightless and learn how to fly with turtles and sharks. Most of us as children dreamt of floating and SCUBA can make you feel like that kid once again.

What sets you apart as a diver / instructor?

I put a lot into every adventure. I want a wonderful experience each time I am in or on the water. I plan for what to expect and educate myself for the unexpected. My level of fun and wonderment is unsurpassed but it only comes after all of the safety and planning.

What got you into diving?

I went diving when I was growing up and I fell in love with it. I got certified as an adult and quickly became a Master SCUBA Diver with many specialties and over 100 dives within my first year of recreational certification. I retired from the corporate world and quickly realized that I wanted to become a professional diver. With over 1000 dives and many certifications later I have found my calling and am doing what I love.

Where did you first dive?

Florida Keys

Favorite Dive Site?

I love Florida Diving. There are so many amazing wrecks and swim throughs off of the west coast of Florida. I just love swimming through downed communications towers that giant groupers the size of busses live in or when the schools of fish blind your sight to finally reveal a hammerhead in the distance.

Favorite Dive Specialty Class?

Without question, Peak Performance Buoyancy is a game changer. All other specialities and dives build off of this skill. Without this mastered, it is almost impossible to improve as a diver.

My Dive Gear

Regulator: Apek xl4

Why: You can sip air off of it, it is white and awesome. Very well built but high end on the pricing.

Octopus: Mares MV Octopus Diving Regulator (Prestige Octo, Yellow)

Why: I am just looking for something that works when I need it and does not free flow when not in use.

BCD: Zeagle Sport Resort

Why: This is a tank. It is not pretty but reliable. I love teaching in this. I fun dive in an Aqualung Pearl because it looks nicer and is less bulky.

Dive Computers: Atomic Cobalt 2

Why: How long of a surface interval do I need? Oh I can tell you quicker than any other computer out there. Full color display and air integrated. Very expensive but it is always there even with a built in compass. Backup is Mares Puck Pro Wrist Dive Computer because of reliability.

Mask: Lost at sea

Why: I am using a loaner one until I find my new perfect fit mask. I had an amazing aqualung mask but the ocean claimed it on one of my adventures.

Fins: Scubapro Seawing Gorilla

Why: Strong and pro level fin. Expensive but worth it. Great value. Kicks the way I need them to. Lost my Aqualung Hot Shots because a wave made me choose between a lobster, or my fin. I chose Lobster.

Snorkel: Lost at sea

Why: Adventure took my snorkel. I am using a loner until I find my new one. It was an Aqualung snorkel.

I saw this Batfish just hanging out on a shore dive in west-central florida. I don't see many so I was glad to get a video.
